Who are we?
Nairn museum is an independent museum managed by board of directors, run by approximately 35 volunteers supported by a single, part-time member of staff.
Ultimately, our museum is kept open thanks to the local community who give their time.
Our Volunteers
The support of our enthusiastic and generous volunteers brings Nairn Museum to life. They take part in every aspect of running the museum, including welcoming visitors, helping with family history queries from around the world, fundraising, social media, cataloguing our collections, supporting with preservation activity, research, helping with DIY jobs and serving on the board.

Annie is an experienced archivist with expertise in digital engagement, dedicated to making heritage accessible to everyone. Annie has worked with a diverse range of collections, across both local and national institutions and has a passion for intangible cultural heritage, from food traditions to folklore. A deep understanding of material culture, particularly textiles, shapes Annie’s approach to connecting people with the stories behind objects and collections. “Of all the places I’ve worked, Nairn Museum holds a special place in my heart as my home. The community spirit here is like none other: our volunteers, visitors and friends make it a marvellous place.”
Lucy Dickson | Collections Assistant
Lucy has experience working in a wide range of independent museums and heritage organisations. Lucy’s passion lies in collections, with a focus on preventative conservation in order to ensure that future generations have the same opportunities to explore our pasts through the artefacts. Lucy has an interest in military histories, particularly the role women and local communities played in war time. “Nairn Museum has such a rich and diverse treasure trove of collections, I find the stories that artefacts reveal to be a fascinating link between ourselves and the communities and people of the past.”
