Nairn Museum is undergoing essential building maintenance however there’s still plenty to enjoy during your visit. Four of our gallery rooms remain open and ready to explore, offering a rich glimpse into our collections. While two galleries are temporarily closed, we warmly welcome visitors to experience what’s on display and support the museum during this period of improvement.

Nairn Museum was founded in 1858 and brings together the many sides of Nairn and Nairnshire, sharing stories that connect our communities across generations.

Our independent museum is based in Viewfield House, a classic Regency-era building.

In our exhibits, you’ll discover Nairn’s rich maritime history through the unique culture of Fishertown. We also celebrate the area’s farming roots and the natural beauty of Nairnshire. Our military room tells powerful stories of the battles that shaped Nairn, from Auldearn and Culloden to the World Wars, and how these events left their mark.

Throughout the year, we host a range of events and exhibitions for all ages.

Our volunteers are at the heart of everything we do, making it possible to keep these stories alive. Their dedication keeps our doors open and allows us to welcome visitors from near and far to explore the many stories of Nairn.
